Hopkins moves up to WorldSSP300

Hopkins Racing step up to the FIM World Supersport 300 championship with Luke Hopkins set to become one of the youngest riders and the only British entry on a Ninja 300.

The 15-year-old only started competitive racing in 2015, but the British rider has developed quickly. In 2016 he finished the season as runner up in the Team Green Junior Cup in the UK. During the season he secured seven race victories and stood on the podium on 24 occasions.

Going into the final round of the season he trailed the championship leader by 50 points. Despite three race wins and a second place in the final event he narrowly missed out on the championship title by the much reduced margin of 11 points.

Hopkins made several Moto3 wildcard appearances in a support class to the British Superbike championship during 2016 as well as competing in several rounds of the Moriwaki Cup, which enabled him to gain more track time. The result of this means that he already has some familiarity with tracks such as Assen, Portimao and Donington.

“I can’t wait to take this next step in my racing career. Last year I really got comfortable with the Ninja 300 so making this step up makes perfect sense. It will be great to be riding against riders on similar paced bikes at some great European circuits. Thanks to thank my sponsors who’ve all been tremendously supportive in getting me here.”
